old Benitses photos
When you click on the picture at the left you will be redirected to a subpage where there are 300 old photos of Benitses separated into 6 groups of 50 photos each.
These photographs tell the history of our place and the people who lived here in some older times, they were collected with great effort over several years with the help of many other friends.
Most photos were in very poor condition, many could not even be seen and it took a special and difficult digital processing get them to this state.
Our goal was and is to rescue those photos from disaster which was a matter of time.
Those people who have such old photos can be sure that after a few years they will be surely destroyed by the humidity and dust, the only solution is to process and store them in digital format in order to keep them intact as years pass.
Do not keep them in drawers, doomed to disappear, give us the originals for a few hours so we can make them remain alive forever.

Below are some more, surely historical, recently collected old pictures of Benitses, most of them from around a house of a famous rich person who lived and died here just before the Second World War, his name was Parmenidis and he was a kind of master of the area, some people say that he was a lord, with most of young women of that era working in his house as maids.

Just for history Parmenidis was a rich Greek from Konitsa in the Greek mainland who married a very rich English lady who bought Parmenidis house todaythe land and build the house, she was known then by the name Parmenidena (means Parmenidi`s wife)
At last we younger people can see the face of this couple...they left no progeny and their house is in ruins now...the house with its large estate  was sold about 15 years ago but although the view of Benitses and the town of Corfu from there is spectacular, the new owner never used it and now wants sell it again....the house inside as it is today is in the picture to the right....

The photos have not been digitally processed, they are as our friend Nektarios Spinoulas gave them to us and the marks of time are clearly visible, we will fix them in time and put them along with others in another bigger group of old photos, of course the originals will be kept intact as they are now.

Benitses...

Benitses is situated on the south eastcoast of Corfu, only 12 kilometres from Corfu town, and 9 kilometres from the international airport Ioannis Kapodistrias.
In recent years it was a part of the Municipality of Achilleion but since 2011 it has been one of the districts of the Municipality of Corfu, following centralization of local government.
It is one of the most traditional Corfiot villages with unique natural beauty and has long been a very popular and well known tourist destination as it was here that the first beach hotel on Corfu was built, The Avra.
When speaking of tourism on Corfu this is where it started..
