I
f you are in Corfu this summer you should visit the endless sandy beaches on the west coast.
The best thing is to choose the place of residence to be close to all those places and Benitses is the ideal place for it.
Staying in Benitses you are not more than 10-20 minutes away by car from any sandy beach.
Worth to visit them all, you will be amazed by the size, the purity of the sand, the beauty and sudden changes in the landscape.
Starting from north to south we meet the following beaches.
Just below the Paleokastritsa are the Ermones, followed by Myrtotissa with featuring steep road up downstairs, where formerly was a nudist beach, just more south is Glyfada one of the most popular and busy beaches of Corfu.
Next to it is Kontogyalos beach below the village of Pelekas, followed by Gyaliskari which is surrounded by forest which keeps the temperature low especially in the summer, something like a natural air conditioning.
Further south is the Aerostato, and after is the huge and beautiful cosmopolitan beach of Agios Gordis ending on a high rock called Ortholithi.
Vagonaki follow further south, then the Prasoudi, the cannula, Gardiki, Alonaki and finally the top beach in Corfu named Halikouna, enormous, endless, with variations in the landscape, a forest, a lagoon from within and above all intact without hotels, without wild exploitation.
just close to it is Issos beach with the same characteristics and immediately after is the beach of Saint George of Argyrades, a wild paradise during the 80s but a leveled landscape with many hotels and uncontrolled tourist development today.
To the south is the vast endless beach of Marathia followed by Santa Barbara, the Gardenos beach, the beach of Vitalades, and then Kanoula beach that reaches the penultimate cape of Corfu in Arkoudila, the entire west and north coast Corfu is an endless sandy beach with length of tens of kilometers...
Remnants of the Byzantine castle in Gardiki

in the west coast near Halikouna and the village of Saint Matthew.
During the summer months in particular events and concerts are happened there
Agios Ioannis Peristeron
Three kilometers south of Benitses is Agios Ioannis,
Beach same composition as that of Benitses, much preferred by the local Corfiots and is filled up until late in the evening, especially on weekends.
Saint George south

The beach of Saint George in Argyrades, was once a wild beauty when we went there with the bikes going through paved roads and between the towering dunes following the smell and noise of the sea as we could not see it yet, until suddenly find ourselves in front of magnificent spectacle of wildlife Sea beating over the pristine sandy beaches where there was almost nothing beyond human presence.
Today the landscape is completely different, with plenty of concrete on one side and the sea from the other, has lost its wild beauty that used to have in the past.
its still a large and nice beach though, visit it if you prefer the comforts of the beach shops and restaurants, there is a great restaurant there that really deserves a visit called "the Cafessas"
Chalikounas and Issos

Sahara desert in Corfu.
Two huge beaches close one to other exceeding in length 10 kilometers, with brown sand and permanent waves ideal for surfing.
It was luck that they were next to the lagoon of Korission, which is a protected area along with the habitat, so there are no hotels there or restaurants, if one is thirsty or wants to eat something, there is only a canteen on the beach.

Between Halikouna and Issos there is a forest three kilometers in length, leave the car at the end of the parallel to the beach road and walk the dirt road through the forest until you leave the dunes and meet the beach Issos.
The Issos has another access from the main road too for those who can not stand walking.
We hope the place to remain as it is today, the pictures speak for themselves.

Marathia and Santa Barbara beach.

Marathias and Santa Barbara, two consecutive 4 km beach that nobody knows exactly where their boundaries are(the locals still arguing about that!), Organized with many restaurants and visitors.
Photographs and references on this page are only for a few places that are close to Benitses, it is impossible to mention all important places of Corfu in one page only....
We have left out the whole of the northern part with beaches as Paleokastritsa, St George of Pagoi, Arillas, Peroulades, Sidari with the famous Canal of love (Canal d `amour), Roda, Acharavi, all above are huge sandy beaches.
Αlso the stunning beaches of northeast Corfu between amazing little coves such as Kassiopi, St. Stephanos, Kerasia, Kalami, Kouloura, Agni, Nissaki, Barbati and so many others,... one more beautiful than the other.
